Crafted to commemorate and celebrate Black History Month, the 2-week exhibit is a captivating fusion of paintings and textiles, photography, an immersive virtual reality experience, and a thought-provoking film screening.
Grounded in meticulous research that pays homage to the past while embracing an innovative vision for the future, When Big Man Talk focuses on the impactful artistic narratives of four remarkable Black men whose visual narratives continue in the tradition started in 1917 by Marcus Garvey while he was in Canada

The concept created by Quentin VerCetty and supported by AstroSankofa highlights the Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey, Jamaica’s first national hero and father of Pan-Africanism, his importance, and historical connections to Canada and, specifically, Montreal. Throughout the experience, questions will need to be answered, and enough Black Star Line tokens need to be found and collected to reawaken the spirit of Garvey and hear his special message.

Quentin VerCetty is the winner of the 2020 Joshua Glover Memorial competition, which enabled him to be the first Canadian-born Black artist to create multiple permanent sculpture monument of a person of African descent including, Joshua Glover, Jean Augustine and Lincoln M. Alexander. He is also the creator of the first statue bust of the Hon. Marcus Garvey in Canada, which was donated to his last living son Julius Garvey and presented to his grandson Chase Garvey.
In 2022 Quentin VerCetty founded AstroSankofa Arts Intiatives an arts organization and artist collective dedicated to supporting other emerging Black artists in the realm of public arts, Quentin VerCetty was told by the Garvey family that it is like the Canadian artistic art of the UNIA.
